Do you want to become a pro in games? If you’re a PC gamer and you want to have the edge, you need to invest in some amazing gear.
The keyboard is just one of the most important peripherals in a gamer’s arsenal. You need to have a gaming keyboard that will suit your needs.
Today, I will talk about the Steelseries Apex M800. This is a mechanical gaming keyboard that makes use of a unique switch. More on the key switches later in the article.
Now, there are already a lot of mechanical gaming keyboards on the market. What makes the Steelseries Apex M800 appealing and why would you want to buy it?
Well, I want to talk about the design of the Steelseries Apex M800. This mechanical gaming keyboard is pretty well thought of. It doesn’t have a wrist rest but it can be angled in a way so that your hand will be comfortable even if you’re playing for hours.
Now, I will talk about the unique mechanical switches that this keyboard uses. The Steelseries Apex M800 makes use of the QS1 mechanical switches. This is their proprietary switch and it is touted to be the fastest gaming switch today.
You see, prior to the release of this gaming keyboard, the Cherry MX Red Switches are considered to be the best switches for gaming because it is a linear switch.
Linear switches do not have stoppers or that “clicky” sound when you’re pressing it. In other words, when you press the MX Reds, it will bottom out immediately, provided that you applied the right force.
The Cherry MX Reds require a 2mm actuation point for the key to register and it requires 45g of actuation force as well.
This is where the new QS1 switch used in the Steelseries Apex M800 shines. The QS1 switch’s actuation distance is only 1.5mm as opposed to the 2mm actuation distance of the Cherry MX Reds. The QS1 switch still requires the same actuation force, though.
I am also happy to report that the Steelseries Apex M800’s keys are all mechanical QS1 switches, so all of them are really nice to the touch. They are also purported to have a 60-million key press lifespan, making this keyboard stick to your desk for years.
Other notable features of the Steelseries Apex M800 include 6 programmable macro keys that are situated on the left side of the keyboard; N-key rollover; two USB 2.0 ports located at the back of the keyboard; per-key lighting illumination which you can customize using Steelseries’ own software; and the build quality is just absolutely amazing.
With its revolutionary QS1 switches, RGB illumination, USB 2.0 ports at the back, great cable management, and their Steelseries software integration, the Steelseries Apex M800 is one of the best gaming keyboards of 2016.
